The draw for the Quarter-Finals of the 2018 SWPL Cup has taken place at Hampden today. There is still one First Round game to play with the postponed match between Glasgow Girls and Hamilton Academical still to be arranged.
There will be a double-header at Ainslie Park with both Hibernian and Spartans being awarded home ties.
The holders Hibernian, who overcame Hearts’ spirited performance, will take on Rangers for the third season in a row. In 2016, they met at the Semi-Finals where they were 4-1 winners whilst last season the Edinburgh side were 5-0 winners.
Spartans, who defeated Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale, are rewarded with a home tie against the most successful side in the competition’s history, Glasgow City. The one-time winners, when they were known as Edinburgh Saints, have reached the final five times since without lifting the trophy – most recently in 2013. Three of those finals were against City. Spartans reached the Semi-Finals last season where they lost to Celtic 2-1, whilst City were knocked out at the same stage by the eventual winners Hibs.
Whoever wins the rearranged tie between Glasgow Girls and Hamilton Academical will be rewarded with a tough home tie against Celtic. Neither Glasgow Girls or Hamilton progressed past the First Round last season, whilst Celtic were the runners-up.
The other tie sees Forfar Farmington take on Stirling University. Neither side has ever reached the final, but Farmington will be looking to reach their first Semi-Final since 2013 when they lost to Glasgow City. Stirling University has twice reached the Quarter-Final stage but has yet to progress.
Ties to be played on 25 March
Forfar Farmington v Stirling University
Glasgow Girls or Hamilton Academical v Celtic
Spartans v Glasgow City
Hibernian v Rangers
