Ahead of their SWPL Cup First Round tie against St Johnstone, Celtic have announced the signing of German forward Josephine Giard.
She joins from 2. Bundesliga club FSV Gutersloh 2009 for whom she made 113 appearances, scoring 42 goals.
Giard will also be studying for her degree in Molecular Biotechnology during her time with Celtic, and she spoke to the club’s website. She told the club about her excitement for playing for Celtic, describing it as a “big move for her.”
She explained that her ambition is to play at the “highest level” that she can, and that she felt that Celtic had provided her with an”opportunity this year for me to get even better.”
Celtic’s Manager David Haley also spoke to the club’s website about his delight of signing Giard.
He felt that the German forward could possibly be a type of player that they had been “missing over the past couple of seasons.” Haley also praised Giard’s movement, link-up play and strength – as well as her ability to find the back of the net as a poacher.
He also felt that Giard would allow Celtic to play with two forwards up front, instead of the one as they have been playing with so far this season.
Giard could make her debut against St Johnstone as the 2017 SWPL Cup Runners-up look to reach consecutive finals.
