Second Half Comeback Sees Motherwell Clarets Reach U13 Final

A superb second-half comeback saw Motherwell Clarets reach the Scottish Women’s Football Youth Cup Under-13 Final, beating Bayside Blacks 6-3.

The game had an even start to it, with the first great chance falling to Motherwell’s Stephanie Conner, but her shot just went wide of the left-hand post.

Soon after, Bayside could have taken the lead when Amy Hood squared the ball to Caitlin Purdy, however, her shot lacked the power to trouble Motherwell’s keeper Ellie Dickson.

In the 9th minute, Motherwell had a superb chance but Conner was denied by keeper’s Felicity Johnston’s superb reactive save.

And then in the 16th minute, Motherwell took the lead. Their build-up was patient outside the Bayside box and Chloe Kirkwood found the bottom-right corner with a powerful left-footed strike.

It took just one minute for Bayside to equalise. Erica Wyse won a corner when her long-range shot was tipped around the post, and then she headed it from the corner.

Two minutes later, it was 2-1 to Bayside. Nina Hutcheon’s corner picked out Wyse’s run and she found the back of the net.

In the 24th minute, Bayside had gone 3-1 up from another corner, this time won by Wyse’s free-kick which was well saved by Ellie Dickson. Hutcheon’s corner this time picked out Alex Fisher who scored with a composed finish.

Just before half-time, Kirkwood came close but her shot just went wide of the far post.

Half-Time: Motherwell Clarets 1-3 Bayside Blacks

Two minutes into the second half, Motherwell pulled a goal back. A long-ball picked out Kirkwood behind the Bayside defence and she found the back of the net with a composed finish.

With Motherwell looking for an equaliser, there was frantic defending from Bayside to stop shots getting off, but the possession was well recycled and Simonette had a shot from distance just go wide.

Motherwell was keeping up the pressure, with Hannah Seddell having a shot deflected behind, Amy Boyle seeing her effort blocked by a defender and Leigha Dobbins having a shot cleared off the line.

In the 45th minute, Motherwell scored the equaliser. Kirkwood had her shot blocked by Johnston’s legs, and there was Boyle to score the rebound.

It looked like it could be going into extra-time, but in the 55th minute, Motherwell scored their fourth goal. A throw-in picked out Jenna Woods, and she knicked the ball just ahead of the keeper and then scored.

Five minutes later, Motherwell made sure that they reached the final. A cross from Boyle picked out Dobbins and she found the back of the net.

And just before the final whistle was blown, there was enough time for Motherwell to score one more through a wonderful solo effort from Boyle as she beat several players before beating the keeper with a great finish.
