Anna Signeul has announced her squad for the friendly against Belgium on the 11th April, with the game to be played in Leuven.
Injury has impacted the choices that Signeul has been able to make with Kim Little, Rachel Corsie, Joelle Murray, Jenny Beattie, Hayley Lauder, Jo Love and Rachel McLauchlan all out. Erin Cuthbert will also be absent due to playing in the Scotland Under-19 Elite Round Qualifiers in April.
Worryingly, Emma Mitchell’s hamstring injury will keep her out for three to four months, making her a doubt for the Euros.
The 19 players will join up for a training camp at the Oriam on the 5th April,
There are three players who have been called up who could make their debut. Glasgow City’s keeper Lee Alexander has been called up for the third time, including the Cyprus Cup – but has yet to make her first appearance. Hibernian midfielder Lucy Graham has been called up on several occasions but has a good chance of making her debut. Celtic’s centre-back Kelly Clark has been called up for the first time ever – but has played for Scotland’s youth teams.
Belgium is also making their debut at the Euros, and in the qualifiers, drew with England 1-1 – the only points England dropped. They are ranked 23rd in the world, two places below Scotland and finished seventh in the Cyprus Cup.
Signeul told the SFA, that “It is unfortunate to see so many players unavailable through injury but some of them are just precautionary as there is a hectic couple of months coming up. It is a chance for some of the younger players to come to the fore and stake their claim.”
She also stated that Arsenal was doing their best to allow Mitchell to be fit enough to play at the Euros.
