Transfer News: Glasgow City Announce Signing of Noelle Murray

Glasgow City has announced the signing of Irish attacking midfielder Noelle Murray on a professional contract from Continental Tyres Women’s National League side Shelbourne Ladies.

It sees City’s Irish contingent grow as Murray joins Keeva Keenan, Clare Shine and Savannah McCarthy at the SWPL 1 champions.

Murray joins City after training with the club in December last year, and upon the deal being announced, she said, “ I am delighted to get the opportunity to make the move over to play for Glasgow City. Although I have had great years playing football in Ireland, I am looking forward to a new challenge, meeting up with the team and I am excited for what’s to come.”

City Head Coach Scott Booth praised his new signing, saying, “She brings to the club a wealth of experience, a creative style and an overall fantastic footballing ability. She is the top player in her country but has shown a desire to test herself in Scotland.”

He also hinted that City was looking to sign more players before the start of the season.

The move comes after Murray had a stunning 2016 season, helping Shelbourne win the club’s first-ever league and cup double.

She scored two goals in the 2015-16 WNL Cup Final, as Shelbourne beat UCD Waves 4-2 to lift the trophy. They also won the shortened 2016 league title, going unbeaten during the 12 matches as the league moves from a winter to summer calendar.

Shelbourne also won the 2016 FAI Women’s Cup, beating Wexford Youths and gaining revenge for their final defeat in 2015 when Wexford had triumphed on penalties. This time, Shelbourne brought out the ‘five-star’ headlines, with Murray getting the scoring underway – with their other four goals coming from a hat-trick from 17-year old striker Leanne Kiernan and

When receiving the award, Murray stated her delight, saying: “It’s definitely the best moment of my career so far and it’s been a great year for me with this fantastic Shelbourne team. I couldn’t have done it without them so a big thanks has to go to all my team-mates and staff.”
