Hearts host Hutchison Vale as they look to win the title.
After a draw with Glasgow Girls, Hearts are in second place, two points behind Hamilton with an inferior goal difference. This makes Hamilton the favourites going into the final game, but Hearts will look to pick up the win they need to have a chance of the title whilst hoping Hamilton’s result goes their way,
Ahead of the match, Hearts’ Head Coach Grant Scott agreed with, telling Tartan Kicks, “The fact mathematically the league is going down to the last weekend tells you how competitive the league has been this season, especially between the top three teams. Hamilton is very much the favourites now, they probably have been for a few weeks now. But we’ll approach our last match professionally and thoroughly this week, and hopefully give ourselves the chance of winning against Hutchie Vale.”
This means Hearts must beat Hutchison Vale, and require Hamilton to most likely lose to Buchan. There is a mathematical possibility that Hearts can win the title if Hamilton draws, but that require Hearts to beat Hutchison Vale 9-0. That seems highly unlikely, implausible in fact.
Hutchison Vale will be disappointed themselves not to be fighting for the title, and they need a draw to secure fourth place. They will also be looking to bounce back from a painful 6-0 defeat to Hamilton last Sunday.
Hutchie’s form against the title contenders shows if they had been able to have some more consistency and had better luck with injuries, they could have been fighting for the title.
The first game between the sides ended in a 1-1 draw before Hearts were awarded a 3-0 win over Hutchie back in August. In the Scottish Cup Quarter-Final, Hearts required extra-time to win 4-3.
