Glasgow Girls Make History With Professional Contracts

SWPL 2 title contenders Glasgow Girls have made history with two of their players signing professional contracts, the first in their history.

The club’s captain Lauren Coleman was the first to be announced as signing a two-year deal and a product of the Glasgow Girls academy.

Upon the news, Coleman told Tartan Kicks,

I love the club and love the game, so to be offered this deal, it was definitely something I had to jump at. It was an amazing feeling to be offered a professional contract. This is something everyone who loves football dreams of.

The hard work starts now, though, and I need to keeper my head down and work hard so that I can help get myself and the club to the top of (Scottish) woman’s football, where it belongs.

Soon after announcing this deal, Glasgow Girls confirmed they had also signed Lauren Evans on a two year professional contract. Evans was the club’s top scorer in 2015.

The ambitious club, who were formed in 2008, finds themselves close to winning the inaugural SWPL 2 title and well as preparing for a SSE Scottish Cup Semi-Final against Glasgow City.

The SWPL 2’s title race sees three clubs Hamilton Academical, Hearts and Glasgow Girls all on 45 points with just two games remaining.
