With three games left in the SWPL 2 season, Hearts now find themselves top of the table.
Tartan Kicks believes that the decision has been due to Hutchison Vale being found guilty of playing an ineligible player in their win over Hearts on 21 August 2016. This makes sense with the change in the SWPL 2 table on the SWF website.
This does seem to back up an earlier decision by the SFA League Management Committee for penalising Celtic for the same offence against Stirling University in the SWPL 1. However, it has taken a month for a decision to be taken which will impact the title race. The cases are different as Celtic’s punishment was for an error on the team sheet, whilst Hutchison Vale was deemed not to have registered the player involved.
Hamilton Academical still has their title hopes in their hands, but it becomes more critical that they beat Hearts in their upcoming game.
However, according to Twitter, Glasgow Girls and Hamilton Academical have not been informed.

UPDATE: 10 October
We believe that there is an appeal against the decision with Hutchison Vale believing the player was correctly registered.
