Rangers and Spartans played out an entertaining and incredible match as the Glasgow club ran out 5-4 winners.
The home side took the lead in the ninth minute when Lisa Swanson crossed to Hayley Sinclair who tapped the ball in. But just after the half-hour point, Spartans equalised through Collette Cavanagh – marking her debut. And just before half-time, Spartans took the lead through a stunning strike from Louise Mason.
Two minutes into the second half, Rangers equalised through Rhonda Jones’ header and then in the 54th minute, Rangers once again took the lead when Chantelle Brown crossed the ball to Sarah Robertson who smashed the ball into the net.
Sarah Clelland used her pace to equalise for Spartans in the 60th minute but Rangers soon once again took the lead through Brown made it 4-3 before Kirstin McGuire’s screamer gave them a 5-3 lead, seconds after coming on.
The game took another twist in the 80th minute when Spartans’ Ellie Simpson was tripped in the box and Laura Gavin converted the penalty spot.
However, the Edinburgh club could not find the equaliser as Rangers won an epic match.
