Maud Juniors, Kick-Off: 2pm
Buchan host Inverness City in a game that could decide the relegation battle in the SWPL 2.
Currently, sixth-placed Buchan is eight points clear of seventh-placed Inverness City – and with the vast difference in goal difference, that is, in reality, nine points. With four games left, it means Inverness have to win. If Buchan wins, it will relegate Inverness and Queen’s Park – regardless of their result.
Buchan could have had a better return of points from their past four matches. They’ve beaten Hutchie, came close to beating Hearts and were denied a point against Hamilton when Accies scored a last-gasp winner. If they had picked up a couple more points during that run, they would be closer to fifth – whereas now they trail by seven points.
Inverness will know the reality of their situation, but if they want any inspiration for this match, they just have to go back to the last game between the sides which Inverness won 2-1. That ended their losing run that stretched back 18 months. Since then, they’ve picked up a win against Queen’s Park – but they need to add to that total, starting with this game. Buchan won the game between these sides played at their home ground.
Neither team can move up from their current position, but if Inverness lose, they could drop down to eighth.
