Spartans host an Aberdeen side that is in desperate need for points this afternoon.
The Edinburgh side is also looking for a turnaround in fortunes. Before the mid-season break, Spartans had won their last three matches. However, since the break, they’ve only picked up one point – in a draw against Stirling University – and lost the other two. Last Sunday, they had a heavy defeat to title-chasing Hibernian.
But, compared to Aberdeen, those worries are less important. Aberdeen, tipped by many as an outside challenge for the top-two before the season, are no facing the prospect of SWPL 2 football next season. Currently, there are just four points ahead of bottom-placed club Forfar Farmington, and despite a change of management – they haven’t won since the 19th June.
Perhaps, what is more concerning for the north-east team is the lack of goals. They’ve now lost their past four matches and have failed to score in a single one. Whilst the gap is four points, they have a bit of safety, but if they aren’t careful, it will be challenging for Aberdeen to turn the form around.
Earlier in the season, Spartans defeated Aberdeen 2-1 at home, whilst Aberdeen beat Spartans 4-0 at Heathryfold Park.
Spartans cannot move higher than their current fourth place, but if they lose and results elsewhere go against them, they could drop down to sixth. Aberdeen will remain seventh, regardless of the result.
