Celtic v Forfar Farmington – Match Preview – SWPL 1

K-Park, Kick-Off: 2pm

Third-placed side Celtic host bottom-placed Forfar Farmington with both sides having contrasting fortunes.

Celtic has very little chance of grabbing second, although that won’t stop them trying to bridge the ten point gap, but they still need points to confirm what would be a second consecutive third-placed finish.

As they continue to close the gap on the top two (although, they’ve yet to beat them), they are five points ahead of fifth place and therefore unable to get complacent yet. And regardless of that, they still need to end the season with momentum for two reasons. Firstly, they have a challenging Scottish Women’s Cup Quarter-Final against Celtic next Sunday, and secondly, they want to build for next season as they try and become a Champions League side.

Forfar Farmington, on the other hand, will be wishing that they had these problems. They are bottom of the league and need to pick up as many points as possible as they try and close on Aberdeen who is four points ahead of them. It is not doom and gloom at this moment, with Forfar still to play Aberdeen again, they can close the gap to one point. But, what they can’t do, is slip up when Aberdeen win.

And there is no reason why Forfar can’t take points from Celtic if they can take their chances and show the defensive spirit that is required.

On the opening day of the season, Celtic beat Forfar 4-0 whilst in May, a debatable penalty saw Celtic narrowly win 3-2.
