Celtic took a big stride forward in securing third space as they beat Aberdeen 5-0. The result leaves Aberdeen facing a battle for survival in the SWPL 1, sitting four points ahead of bottom-placed side Forfar Farmington.
The home side took the lead in the ninth minute when Alex Middleton’s cross crossed the line, after deflecting off the far post.
Celtic could have doubled their lead when Middleton won a penalty, however, Suzanne Mulvey’s spot-kick was saved by Dons’ keeper Becky Flaherty.
But just after the half-hour mark, Mulvey got on the scoresheet to double Celtic’s lead after her powerful shot gave Flaherty no chance.
Kirsty Howat’s calm finish gave Celtic a 3-0 lead at half-time.
In the 65th minute, Natalie Ross made it 4-0 after she turned her marker before scoring with a lovely left-footed finish.
Late on, Celtic got their fifth when Ruesha Littlejohn provided Abbi Grant with a tap-in.
