There’s an Edinburgh derby in the SWPL 2 as Hutchison Vale host city rivals and league leaders Hearts after both teams had contrasting fortunes last Sunday.
Hutchison Vale is looking to get over a disappointing setback as they try and put their title challenge back on track. They had a chance to break into the top three but came away with a disappointing defeat to Hamilton Academical.
But, they will have to see that bad performance as a one-off, having been unbeaten in their previous past four games – winning their last three and drawing the other. Win today, and the gap to first will be just seven points.
However, their opponents Hearts are hardly going to be in a charitable mood. Last Sunday, they produced an impressive performance to beat the then-leaders Glasgow Girls and return to the top of the table.
Unlike the last time they were top, they will not want to relinquish the spot so quickly and look to build a lead. They’ve now won their last six league games, including victories against Glasgow Girls and Hamilton in the past two matches.
The last time they dropped points was when they hosted their opponents today, Hutchison Vale, and drew 1-1.
Both sides have reached the Quarter-Finals of the Scottish Women’s Cup where they face each other, although it will be Hearts who host that match in two weeks time.
