Heather Richards has rejoined the SWPL 1 side Celtic after an 18-month spell with league rivals Hibernian.

She had previously played for Celtic between 2012 and 2014, during which she made 64 starts and scored 16 goals.

Whilst Richards plays in midfield, she will also provide Celtic with options for their forward line.

Richards spoke to the Celtic official website, saying that she had originally left Celtic to develop her game with a change, but now that she had finished her Sports Study course at Heriot Watt University, she had moved to Airdrie.

“It made sense for me to re-sign for Celtic, and I’m delighted to be here again. There has been a massive change at the club over the last season-and-a-half, and it’s a really exciting time to be at Celtic once more.”

During her time at Hibernian, she played in three domestic cup finals. In the 2015 SWPL Cup Final, Richards’ wonder-goal looked like it was going to be a winner before Glasgow City fought back to win in extra-time.

But in the 2016 SWPL Cup Final, she came on in the 85th minute as Hibernian scored a late winner to beat City and lift the trophy.

The 22-year old has represented Scotland at U16, U17 and U19 levels, and made her full international debut on the 12 March 2014 at the Cyprus Cup. In the Third-Placed game against South Korea, they drew 1-1 but went on to lose on penalties. Richards has made three more appearances, her last cap in a friendly defeat to Norway in September 2015.
