Celtic survived a nervy second half as they held on to beat Rangers 2-1 in the SWPL 1.
Celtic came close in the 7th minute from a 20-yard free-kick but Kelly Clark’s free-kick was well saved by Rangers’ keeper Claire Johnstone.
In the 16th minute, it was Rangers’ turn to come close, but Chantelle Brown’s shot was parried by Celtic’s keeper Megan Cunningham.
And then, in the 23rd minute, Celtic took the lead when their captain Clark headed in from a corner, her second headed goal in as many games.
The next minute, Celtic could have doubled their lead, but Abbi Grant’s powerful shot was tipped onto the crossbar by Johnstone.
Celtic did double their lead in the 41st minute. After Susanne Mulvey was taken out by Johnstone, Chloe Craig calmly converted the penalty.
Rangers had a couple of chance straight after the break, with Claire Adams shooting just over and Katey Turner having effort saved by Cunningham.
And then in the 61st minute, Rangers pulled a goal back through their captain Clare Gemmell.
Celtic could have restored their two-goal advantage soon after, but Christie Murray’s header was cleared off the line.
They had another chance to make it 3-1 when Mulvey rounded the keeper, but Rangers’ defender Leanne Hughes made a brilliant goal-line clearance.
Rangers pushed for the equaliser, but Celtic held on to pick up a crucial win.
