Here at Tartan Kicks, we are wanting to introduce monthly awards within the SWPL leagues. Some of these (e.g. Goals of the Month) will take time and work to set up.
The first one we are going to try out is the “Result of The Month”.
Now, what are we looking at for the nominations? Mainly, we are judging the importance of the result. So for example, we are ignoring Glasgow City’s 8-0 win over Spartans. Yes, the scoreline was big, but City was expected to win.
We’ve selected three results for you to choose from.
Stirling University 2-1 Celtic
This was a game full of late action, but a brilliant game to watch. Celtic, outsiders for the title, travelled to Stirling University in a game they were expected to win. But Stirling is one of those tricky sides, and it looked like it was going to end in a goalless draw. And then, Celtic took the lead.
However, Stirling never allowed their heads to drop and scored two late goals to secure a famous victory as they beat Celtic for the first time.

Aberdeen 1-2 Rangers
An away trip to Aberdeen is one of the trickiest in the calendar. And Rangers, they’ve had been having a hit-and-miss start to the season. At home, they had beaten Stirling University and Spartans, but on their travels – they had struggled. So, to pick up an away win against Aberdeen is a highly impressive result given that. And, it saw them move up to third.

Hamilton Academical 1-3 Hearts
This was a top-of-the-table clash in the SWPL 2, and it did not let us down. It was a match full of excitement, chances and a huge amount of controversy at the end. Whilst Hearts’ third goal arguably should not have stood, they probably deserved the three points, as Hamilton never seemed able to deal with the threat of Ashley Carse. The win saw Hearts move up to first, becoming the first team to beat Hamilton in the league.
