Rangers became the first team, other than Glasgow City and Hibs, to pick up an away win in the 2016 SWPL 1. And they did it in one of the trickiest ties in the league – away to Aberdeen.
Both sides had good chances in the opening ten minutes, with Aberdeen having a shot saved by the Rangers keeper, whilst the visitors saw Jordan McLintock’s shot go just over.
But, just before the half-hour mark, Rangers took the lead as Rhonda Jones’ headed in Clare Gemmell’s free-kick.
They could have doubled their lead minutes later, but were denied by a good saved from Aberdeen’s keeper Becky Flaherty.
However, in the 69th minute, Aberdeen equalised through Cheryl Anderson’s strike. This was minutes after they had hit the Rangers’ crossbar.
With both sides looking for a winner, it would be Rangers who would get the three points as Lisa Swanson scored in the 86th minute.
The win sees Aberdeen remain in seventh, whilst Rangers climb up to third.
