Heathryfold Park, Kick-Off: 1pm
Rangers travel up to Aberdeen, one of the trickiest away trips in the league, boosted by the recent signing of Niamh Johnston from Celtic.
Whilst Aberdeen sit in seventh place with one point, it does feel as if this is a false sign of their situation. Two of their three league games have been away trips and one of those was against Glasgow City. The opening day defeat to Spartans saw the Edinburgh side score their winner from one of the goals of the season, and their loss to Glasgow City saw them close to frustrating the champions.
Their only point of the season saw them play out a goalless draw with a Hibernian side that has strengthened their already impressive attacking unit. At the SWPL launch, Aberdeen’s Loren Campbell talked about making Heathryfold Park a fortress, and if you combine their League Cup results with the SWPL 1, it seems that they are doing that. Both of their League Cup matches have been played at home, and they beat Jeanfield Swifts 5-0 and Spartans 5-1 to set up a Semi-Final clash with Glasgow City.
As with the vast majority of the SWPL 1 sides, Rangers are having a better time at home than away. To date, only City and Hibernian have won on the road. They sit in the middle of a cluster of three sides on six points, and will be looking to pick up a point to see them move towards the top, instead of being dragged towards the relegation place.
Their home games have both ended in impressive wins. They beat Stirling University 4-1, and then last Sunday, they became the first side in the 2016 SWPL 1 to beat Spartans. Away from home, though, their terrible first half performance saw them lose 3-1 to Hibernian, and then in a historic night, they painfully lost 5-1 to Celtic at Celtic Park.
This pattern has continued into the League Cup, with both of their matches being played at home, and both ending in victories. They will play Hibernian in the Semi-Finals.
The league games between the sides last season all ended in 2-0 wins: Aberdeen winning two and Rangers the other.
If Aberdeen win, they could move up to sixth whilst Rangers can move up to second with a victory.
