Spartans travel to New Tinto Park for their first away game of the 2016 SWPL 1 season with a 100% record.

Their hosts Rangers come into the match off the back of a painful midweek 5-1 defeat to Celtic. However, so far they have won all their home games in all competitions. In the SWP League Cup, they’ve beaten two SWPL 2 clubs Hamilton Academical and Buchan whilst in the league, they beat Stirling University 4-1 – so far, their only points in 2016. But, on the league’s opening day, they lost to their League Cup Semi-Final opponents Hibernian away from home.

Spartans are the only club yet to play away from home in the league. Their two league games have seen them beat Aberdeen 2-1 and then beat Forfar Farmington 3-1. And in their League Cup First Round win over Stirling University was also played at their home ground, Ainslie Park. But in their Quarter-Final match against Aberdeen played away from home ended in a heavy 5-1 defeat.

The two league games played at New Tinto Park between these sides last season had an extraordinary 13 goals – the first match was a 4-0 Rangers win, whilst the second saw Spartans win 5-4.

If Rangers win and all the other results go their way, they can move up to first. Spartans require a win and Celtic to fail to win for them to retake first.
